The Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod was born in 2017 with a singular ambition: to create the ultimate proving ground for Pro Modified drag racing. Launched at Bandimere Speedway in Colorado, the event was conceived as a no-compromise showcase for the quickest, fastest, and most accomplished Pro Mod racers in the world – an invitational-level spectacle built around prestige, competition, and legacy.
From its inception, the World Series of Pro Mod distinguished itself as something different. Bigger stakes. Deeper fields. And a relentless focus on crowning a champion who had truly survived the most demanding eliminations Pro Mod had to offer.
After three successful years in Colorado, the event relocated to Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida in 2023, unlocking year-round racing conditions and allowing the World Series of Pro Mod to grow into what it was always meant to be. That move would prove pivotal – not only for the race itself, but for the future of the sport.
The World Series of Pro Mod ultimately became the catalyst for the creation of the Drag Illustrated Winter Series, a three-race championship contested annually at Bradenton Motorsports Park. Today, the World Series of Pro Mod stands as the crown jewel and season finale of the Winter Series, where championships, reputations, and history are decided.
Over the years, the event has crowned an elite list of champions:
-
2017 – Mike Bowman
-
2018 – Carl Stevens Jr.
-
2019 – Scotty Oksas
-
2023 – Spencer Hyde
-
2024 – Derek Ward
-
2025 – Steve King
In 2024, Derek Ward captured a $100,000 winner-take-all prize with a final-round victory over Jim Halsey, further elevating the event’s reputation for high-stakes drama. One year later, Steve King etched his name into history by claiming the 2025 World Series of Pro Mod title, reinforcing the event’s role as the sport’s ultimate measuring stick.
Now contested in a Thursday-to-Saturday format, the World Series of Pro Mod has continued to raise the bar. The 2025 edition offered a staggering $150,000 winner-take-all purse, making it the biggest and richest Pro Mod drag race in the history of the known universe – and one of the most competitive drag racing events on the planet.
More than a race, the World Series of Pro Mod is where eras are defined. It is where the sport’s elite gather, where emerging stars announce themselves, and where winning means something that can’t be replicated anywhere else.
This is Pro Mod at its absolute highest level.
